Janainas in the year 2024

As the year 2024 drew to a close, we took a look back. Janainas e.V. turned 5 years old in 2024, a milestone we celebrated on 12.11.24 in the Puduhepa Pavilion—a place that has been our home from the very beginning. Joined by 25 cooperation partners, as well as volunteers and full-time staff, we honored our history and achievements together.

But that wasn't our only highlight of the year.

Health is an important part of our lives and work. In January, the 'Gesundheitsförderung für Migrantinnen 2.0' (Health Promotion for Migrant Women) project organized workshops and meetings. In 2024, we organized more than 50 events, reaching over 400 women. These included the Wednesday meetings at the Olof-Palme-Zentrum, where activities like theatre, dance, and discussion groups attracted many women to the center.

The ‘Frauenpower in Mitte’ (#FiM) project launched with a successful event in March focused on integration. We invited organizations such as La Red, Foundera, IRC/Himmelbeet, and SwaF to present their projects. Additionally, we conducted two series of workshops on the labor market and organized various other events. As a result, we engaged with 50 new women, and 30% of them have either found employment or pursued further training.

In June and July, we launched a summer program to celebrate our 5th anniversary with our target audience. We organized ten events, including a walk, an astrology workshop, a sarau, and an artists' market at a Brazilian music festival.

The Sprachcafé „Frauen im Gespräch“ (language café ‘Women in dialogue’) was also a success. At 8 meetings, the women were able to practice and try out German in a local environment.

Much more happened! It just doesn't fit in the text. 😊 😊

The diversity of our programs reflects the variety of women who support us and who propose and initiate projects on their own. That is the essence of Janainas: a space for creativity, development, and possibilities.

We are extremely grateful for what we have achieved despite the challenges we faced.

What the year 2025 will look like is a mystery. Like many migrants and women's organizations, we are also affected by uncertainty. However, one change is already certain: I, Evelyne Leandro, co-founder and current project coordinator of #FiM, will be leaving Berlin next year and with it my position in the project. However, I will be staying on as a counselor for the association and look forward to many more wonderful years with you.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a peaceful 2025!
